Wednesday, May 15, was Physical Fitness Day during the OIPE Student Wellness Week.

The UAMS Fitness Center members were on hand to talk about the concept of mind and body wellness.

Angela Johnson led a Body Weight Based Training class in RAHN 1202 while Adam Carter, director of the Fitness Center, manned the information table and offered students a one-week free trial in the center on the 8th floor of the RAHN building.

The Get Healthy UAMS program is a terrific endeavor that the OIPE is thrilled to help support.

Culinary Medicine + Student Wellness =’s Yum!

Tuesday, May 14th, the OIPE sponsored a Culinary Medicine demonstration with the help of UAMS Nutrition Services director Tonya Johnson!

Students and faculty were treated to a delicious, heart-healthy, vegetarian meal that aligns with the DASH Diet and Mediterranean Diet.

Using brown rice, which is a whole grain, tempeh, and fresh vegetables seasoned with garlic, onion, and other spices, the chefs cooked up a tempeh fried rice that had people lined up in the lobby!

Everyone was also encouraged to check out the Wall of Yum! and leave a little healthy tip or trick for others to see.

It was a great day on the 1st floor of the RAHN Building (Bruce Commons).
Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

The UAMS Office of Interprofessional Education is now accepting proposals for its small grant program, which this year will highlight interdisciplinary efforts focused on population health. Deadline for proposal submission is 5 p.m., May 1, 2019.

Program Goal:

Promote the scholarship of interdisciplinary collaboration and practice in population health and interprofessional education

The interprofessional project requesting support may include, but is not limited to, a focus on population health such as:

  1. The impact of interprofessional practice on population health, including:
  • Value-based care
  • Social determinants of health

or,

  1. Research or curriculum development focused on the Quadruple Aim — enhancing patient experience, improving population health, reducing costs, improving the work life of the provider — in clinical, educational or population health arenas

Award:
Multiple grants will be awarded. Grants will range from $5,000 to $15,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • In addition to including investigators representing multiple professions, the proposed project should aim to establish a relationship between interprofessional practice and outcomes.
  • Scholarly work that establishes baseline data or demonstrates strong potential for obtaining additional funding will be viewed favorably.

Application Process:
Include abbreviated curriculum vitae (or NIH Biosketch) of all investigators
Include letter(s) of support from the supervisor of the PI and Co-PI (if applicable)

Maximum of five pages including:

  1. Specific Aims

  3. Rationale for the interprofessional team’s composition, along with roles and responsibilities for each project team member
  4. A description of how an interprofessional team is required for project design and implementation
  5. How the project addresses one or more elements of population health, if applicable
  6. Rationale and Approach (including methods, outcome measures, data analysis plans, and project evaluation)
  7. A plan to evaluate the project’s outcomes and the function of the interprofessional team
  8. Plan for dissemination of results (presentation of work at a relevant national meeting and/or publication is required)
  9. References cited will not count as part of the page limit
